Video: From Where Do You Fund Alternative Investments?

How should an investor fund his or her alternative investments? According to Brian Singer, leader of the William Blair Macro Allocation Fund portfolio management team, it depends on the objective of the particular alternative investment: If the strategy is more growth-oriented, then it should be funded from the equities portion of the portfolio; if the strategy is more income-oriented, then it should be funded from the fixed-income portion of the portfolio. The problem, of course, is that not all alternative investments fall neatly into a single category, as Singer explains in this video.
