Franklin Square Adds Chief Business Development Officer

The alternative investment firm Franklin Square has created the new executive-level position of Chief Business Development Officer and hired industry veteran Lewis Katz to fill it. In this new role, Mr. Katz will collaborate with teams across the firm to expand Franklin Square’s technology, marketing, and educational initiatives. He’ll also be responsible for developing new growth opportunities and helping the firm diversify its distribution into new sales channels.

“Lewis Katz has wide-ranging experience with alternative investments, large-scale business development, partnership growth and technology expansion,” said Franklin Square Chairman and CEO Michael C. Forman, in a recent statement. “He will be instrumental in forging new paths for Franklin Square as we continue our growth as a leader in alternatives.”

Mr. Katz was most recently president of Blackboard Advisors, a firm he founded, where he advised some of the nation’s top financial services companies on asset management and long-term strategy. Prior to that, Mr. Katz headed 1798 Global Partners US and Lombard Odier Asset Management US. He’s also held senior positions at BAM and Dillon Read Capital Management, both of which are alternative asset firms, and he was the founder of Clamour, a “deep technology platform” focused on personal finance.

Additionally, Mr. Katz is on the board of Say Yes to Education, Jacob’s Cure, and the Lupus Foundation. He’s been an advisor and mentor to Techstars and the Barclays Accelerator, which are both programs focused on budding fintech entrepreneurs.

Franklin Square is the country’s leader in BDCs (“business development companies”), and last year the firm hired a former congressional staffer to head its Washington, DC office. Later in 2015, Franklin Square hired IndexIQ founder Greg Bassuk as Head of Liquid Alternatives.
