Digital Assets: Accuweather Enables Access To Weather Data On The Blockchain In Partnership With API3
Accuweather is putting its world-class weather data on the blockchain for use by dapps.
Web API providers can now offer Accuweather’s weather data for on-chain applications. Accuweather launched its AccuWeather API in collaboration with API3, a leading first-party blockchain oracle solution, empowering the latter to deliver the highly accurate weather forecast and warning data to decentralized applications (dApps). Accuweather can now leverage better its weather data
“The application and use of AccuWeather’s weather data, leveraged independently on an API oracle, has the potential to make lasting impacts through a range of industries and even in emerging markets,” said AccuWeather Senior Vice President of Business Development, Paul Lentz. “As one of the first major weather data and forecast providers to enter the blockchain space, we have a unique view into the demand and usage of the marketplace which puts us on a strong footing as we explore new opportunities for growth and how we can better serve users.”
dapps could be devised for applications such as parametric insurance, simulation of accurate wether conditions in metaverse experiences, and weather derivatives.
For instance, insurtech firm Lemonade has announced the launch of the Lemonade Crypto Climate Coalition, which will offer climate insurance to the world’s most vulnerable farmers.
The climate insurance will be architected as a stable coin-denominated, decentralised application (dApp) on Avalanche – an eco-friendly proof-of-stake blockchain.
This will allow farmers to make and receive payments with ease from their mobile phones by using global stable coins and local currencies.
