Artificial Intelligence: Now, Use Salty Sally To Pay Back Pesky Telemarketers!
Salty Sally, aimed at telemarketers, uses ChatGPT-4 to conduct a confusing conversation with the cold caller.
AI-driven chatbots can now be employed to consume the time of scammers and telemarketers. A particular chatbot, Salty Sally, now utilizes the advanced capabilities of ChatGPT-4, an AI language model developed by OpenAI. These chatbots, created by the Jolly Roger Telephone Company (JRTC), imitate engaged but confused respondents to frustrate and waste the time of unwanted callers.
Subscribers of JRTC’s call-answering service can activate a chatbot to take over when they receive calls from scammers or telemarketers. The Salty Sally chatbot listens to the caller, employs AI algorithms to generate responses, and interacts with the caller using a digitally generated voice. Over time, these chatbots have become increasingly sophisticated.
South Africa ranks as the ninth most affected country by spam calls according to a 2021 Truecaller report, making it a significant problem. In this context, cybercrime attempts often involve phone calls aimed at extracting personal information or money.
Reporting incidents of online scams to the respective bank and law enforcement authorities is crucial for victims.
