FinTech: Square Preps Entry Into Canadian Weed POS Through Tie-Up With Jane Technologies
Square has introduced an Early Access Program tailored for licensed cannabis dispensaries. This program grants authorized cannabis retailers in Ontario the opportunity to initiate trials of the Square for Retail point-of-sale (POS) solution within their stores prior to its broader release.
Square has entered the Canadian cannabis market through a strategic partnership with Jane Technologies, a prominent online ordering platform for cannabis dispensaries. This collaboration aims to address the needs of cannabis sellers in Canada, particularly by providing reliable and integrated commerce solutions.
Jane Technologies offers cannabis dispensaries the capability to enhance their physical stores with an online presence, enabling customers to browse current product offerings and place orders for either pickup or delivery. This move marks a significant advancement in both companies’ efforts to improve commerce solutions for the recreational cannabis sector in Canada. (Businesswire)
As part of this initiative, Square has introduced an Early Access Program for licensed cannabis dispensaries. This program allows authorized cannabis retailers in Ontario to test Square’s point-of-sale (POS) solution, Square for Retail, before its broader launch.
Roshan Jhunja, Head of Retail at Square, said the company recognized the difficulties faced by cannabis dispensaries in accessing reliable and integrated commerce tools. The partnership with Jane, therefore, aims to provide a comprehensive omnichannel solution for these businesses.
According to Jane CEO Socrates Rosenfeld, the integration of Square’s robust POS infrastructure and APIs with Jane’s e-commerce platform would create a top-tier omnichannel experience for Canadian cannabis retailers.
The recreational cannabis market, legalized in Canada in 2018, is currently valued at over $4.5 billion and is expected to experience annual growth of more than 18% through 2024.
Licensed cannabis dispensaries in Ontario interested in participating in Square’s Early Access Program can access more information and sign up on their website.
