FarmWise is an agtech that supplies AI-Powered farm equipment in U.S. farms.

FarmWise, a startup founded in 2016 by Sebastien Boyer and Thomas Palomares using technology they worked on while working in MIT and Stanford Computer, makes a machine that kills weeds without using chemicals. The company raised a $45m Series B funding round, led by AgTech venture firms Fall Line Capital and Middleland Capital, with participation from GV and Taylor Farms. Existing investors Calibrate Ventures, Playground Global, SVG Ventures and the venture arm of Wilbur Ellis also participated. (CISION PR Newswire)

Robotic, AI-powered weeders

Large vegetable farms across California and Arizona have used FarmWise’s ‘weeding-as-a-service’ since three commercial seasons. A fleet of automated weeders can mechanically remove individual weeds with “sub-inch precision,” according to the company, using plant level data. These client farms have increased their revenues threefold year over year.

“We started FarmWise with the conviction that farmers should be supplied with cost-effective, sustainable solutions to feed a growing world, and artificial intelligence is the ideal technology to make this a reality,” said Sebastien Boyer, co-founder and CEO of FarmWise. “With rising costs in the agricultural industry, we’re continuing to expand our technology to work with many more farmers.”

Use of funds

FarmWise will use the new raise to develop a new vegetable weeding implement that could significantly advance farm robotics. It also intends to grow its reach to more farmers and to extend the technology to row crops farms.
