StoryFile’s AI technology enabled her appearance, seemingly live, as a hologram.

Marina Smith MBE, a Holocaust survivor from Nottingham, England, expired in June 2022, appeared at her own funeral as a hologram, looking realistically alive. What’s more, she was even able to talk to her beloved mourners using the StoryFile AI-powered ‘holographic’ video tool. (AnalyticsIndiaMag)

This conversational video technology is the brainchild of StoryFile, a cloud-based, automatic, AI-powered video platform. Stephen Smith, the co-founder and CEO of the company is the son of the deceased Marina Smith.

He persuaded his mother to adopt the technology.

StoryFile

Founded in 2017, StoryFile created video technology that accessed AI to play relevant snippets in reply to viewers’ questions. Known as Conversa, it is an AI-powered storytelling tool used for training and institutional knowledge. However, unexpectedly the tool is being used at funerals, the founders realized.

How it works

The company initially captures the subject using sophisticated studio technology and surrounded by 20 syced cameras to enable their holographic creation.

This image is then combined with advanced AI and expert psychological evaluation to create a digital clone that allows people to ‘talk to the dead.’

This process required Mrs Smith to spend all of two days creating the story of her life. This included real pre-recorded responses to potential questions.

Using special 3D technology, state-of-the-art sound equipment and depth kits, StoryFile also records the person answering questions about their life.

After vetting by experts and training the AI to answer naturally like the subject, the data is all uploaded to the StoryFile platform.

People can then access the platform and seemingly ‘converse’ with their loved departed ones.
