Infamous mafia don Mukhtar Ansari is imprisoned in the Banda district jail.

AI-based drone cameras will maintain an aerial vigil on the Banda district jail in the Uttar Pradesh state of India. The drone cameras will maintain aerial surveillance of the jail compound and adjoining areas to pick up any suspicious activity. Talking to Times of India, Kumar said his department had deployed AI technology to monitor the prisons across the state.

Ansari was brought back to Banda jail in the wee hours of Wednesday after spending over two years in a Punjab prison.

At his headquarters, Kumar has a bird’s eye view of 72 jails that are under his jurisdiction on a video wall containing 24 monitor screens.

The system runs on high-speed exclusively leased broadband lines of 100 Mbps each.  The state of Uttar Pradesh took the lead in India for the installation of such high-technology and AI-based surveillance systems in 2019.

Considering the notoriety of Mukhtar Ansari, the department would also use night vision drone cameras to keep a keen eye on the jail premises as well as its surrounding areas, effective Friday. The drones will be managed by a three-member police team specially trained by experts.

Additionally, about 50 jail personnel have donned body cameras that will record real-time interactions with any jail inmates.

After doctors said that the don could walk normally, his wheelchair has been taken away.
