Artificial Intelligence: China’s 6G Plans Could Power an AI-Enabled Military
5G is so much “yesterday’s” technology compared to 6G.
Mobile 6G (sixth generation) technology is 10X faster than 5G, which in turn has 10 times the transmission speeds from the widely used 4G. The 6G technology is far superior to 5G and is said to have immense potential for military applications, especially AI-related. Since November, China has two teams working on this revolutionary wireless technology. The country is also spending billions to make its military a cyber-force. (EXPRESS UK)
How 6G will change the game
China’s Ministry of Science and Technology is pulling out all the stops in the development of the technology. With close to zero latency, hugely superior bandwidth, and high connectivity, the new wireless technology could be a game-changer on the battlefield.
An article, “If 6G Were to be Used in the Future Battlefield,” was published on April 13 by the Peoples’ Liberation Army (PLA)’s China National Defence News.
The article dwelt on how 6-Gen wireless technology could have a huge impact on war formations, the development and deployment of equipment, and wartime communications. The Chinese armed forces would focus on the application of the technology to transform its military in the future, the article said.
The US drones may not be a match for the Chinese army
Because 6G is so much more advanced, in theory, US autonomous 5G drones could be outmaneuvered by the Chinese military.
The U.S. is developing joint soldier+AI-powered drone combat systems. These joint “manned+unmanned” teams could transform battleground engagement as we know it.
However, could China’s faster 6G communications checkmate these systems?
