The Shutterstock partnership with OpenAI will deliver the most advanced creative tools in the industry.

Creative platform Shutterstock (NYSE: SSTK) has announced a partnership with OpenAI to launch its AI-generated content capabilities in a manner that is responsible and transparent for its customers and contributors, and a fund to compensate artists for their contributions to the development of image generation technology such as OpenAI’s DALL-E. This technology would be soon integrated into Shutterstock.com, allowing customers direct access to these AI image generation capabilities, thereby improving their creative workflows. The two organizations already have a partnership in place since 2021, which played a role in training OpenAI’s text-to-image generative AI.

“The data we licensed from Shutterstock was critical to the training of DALL-E,” said Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO. “We’re excited for Shutterstock to offer DALL-E images to its customers as one of the first deployments through our API, and we look forward to future collaborations as artificial intelligence becomes an integral part of artists’ creative workflows.”

“The mediums to express creativity are constantly evolving and expanding. We recognize that it is our great responsibility to embrace this evolution and to ensure that the generative technology that drives innovation is grounded in ethical practices,” said Paul Hennessy, Chief Executive Officer at Shutterstock.

Creativity at the Speed of Your Imagination

After integrating OpenAI’s seamless image generation capabilities into Shutterstock, customers can instantly generate images based upon the criteria they type in – which Shutterstock calls “Creativity at the Speed of Your Imagination.”

The company has opened a wait list for getting access to the forthcoming integration of its content with OpenAi’s DALL-E 2 image generator.
