Available in two sizes, the machine uses air plasma to sterilize airborne bacteria and viruses. It is also equipped with an ultraviolet-C light for UV purification for disinfecting the floors, purifying the air, and removing dust and toxic gases.
The robots are able to move autonomously using camera sensors, and can also plug themselves in for recharging.
The technology is safe for humans in the vicinity.
“KT aims to build a bridge between robot solution providers and those in need of the new robot service, and at the same time we are in pursuit of becoming a robot platform that tailors robots to customers’ needs and as a result enhances robots’ value,” KT’s senior vice president and head of AI robot business, Lee Sang-ho, said at the launch.
KT will make available 4,000 of these robots every month from April through to the end of the year. Each robot will retail for about ₩20 million or $16,560. However, the rental fee for the large model units is about ₩790,000 per month, while it is ₩750,000 for the smaller robots.
According to Business Korea, the global service robot market is expected to reach US$122 billion in 2024 as per projections from Strategy Analytics (SA), a global market research firm. Meanwhile, the International Federation of Robotics forecast that the service robot market will grow at an average annual rate of 23 percent or more.
