Venture Capital: Crowdfunded Ecologi Plants Trees In Return For Your Subscription

The startup has exceeded its £2 million crowdfunding target on the U.K.’s Crowdcube platform, and has a pre-money valuation of £75 million.

Ecologi, which exhorts you to become climate-friendly for less than $2.75 a week, is a platform for climate action, helping individuals, families and businesses become carbon-positive for a subscription. Subscribers can fund carbon reduction projects to offset their footprint and also grow their own virtual forests.

Ecologi is presently crowdfunding on Crowdcube and has raised £2.72 million against a target of £2 million. It received backing from General Catalyst in its April seed investment round of $5.75 million (£4.05 million) at a pre-money valuation of £16.5 million. (TechCrunch)

Why is Ecologi crowdfunding?

“Community ownership is central to Ecologi, and rather than undertaking another round of investment solely from new and existing VC’s, we’d rather have an army of active investors and ambassadors, helping us in our mission to reverse climate change,” it says.

In the 28 months since its founding the company has already funded the planting of over 20 million trees and reduced over 650K tonnes of CO2e.

It already boasts of over 16,500 subscribers including 3,500 businesses.

Real time business carbon footprinting

Soon to launch in Q1 of 2022, Ecologi Zero will enable businesses real time carbon footprinting and analysis of their business emissions.

Businesses can therefore set their targets for net-zero and achieve a certified carbon-neutral status by funding climate action through Ecologi.

Some of the certified climate action projects supported by the startup include renewable energy projects, REDD+ avoided deforestation projects, to protect old growth rainforests like the Amazon, verified community projects such as repairing water boreholes, and landfill methane capture and storage.
