Venture Capital: Elon Musk’s Neuralink Raises $280M Round Led By Founders Fund
Neuralink is a biotech startup focused on brain implants in human beings to restore vision and mobility.
Elon Musk’s biotech startup Neuralink has secured $280 million in a Series D fundraising round, with Founders Fund leading the investment. Founders Fund is a San Francisco-based VC firm established by Peter Thiel, who previously was one of the founders of PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL).
The company aims to develop brain implants that connect the brain to computers. Neuralink, founded by Musk, has previously tested its implantable chips on animals, but faced controversy after a monkey died during testing in 2022.
Despite concerns about rushing to market and animal deaths, Neuralink plans to move towards human trials after submitting the necessary paperwork to the FDA. (CNN)
During a recruiting event in December, Musk stated that Neuralink had completed the submission of the majority of its paperwork to the US Food and Drug Administration, potentially allowing human testing to commence within six months.
The company’s goal is to receive regulatory approval before mass-producing brain implants. It recently announced job openings for engineering challenges related to restoring vision and mobility.
