Michael Schumacher is a seven-time Formula One champion. The publishers have fired the editor responsible and apologized for the misleading article.

Die Aktuelle, the German magazine, recently released a cover story asserting it was Michael Schumacher’s first interview since his skiing accident in 2013. However, the quotes were actually generated by AI technology, which upset the Schumacher family and prompted them to threaten legal action against the magazine. In response, the publishers have relieved editor-in-chief Anne Hoffmann of her duties and expressed their regret to the Schumacher family.

“This tasteless and misleading article should never have appeared. It in no way corresponds to the standards of journalism that we — and our readers — expect from a publisher like Funke,” said Bianca Pohlmann, managing director of Funke magazines, the media group which publishes Die Aktuelle. ”As a result of the publication of this article, immediate personnel consequences will be drawn. Die Aktuelle editor-in-chief Anne Hoffmann, who has held journalistic responsibility for the paper since 2009, will be relieved of her duties as of today,” Pohlmann added.

The Schumacher family has maintained strict privacy since Michael’s accident, with only their closest friends maintaining contact.

The family-curated Netflix documentary “Schumacher” provided the only insight into their lives and featured interviews with his wife Corinna and son Mick. Corinna stated in the documentary that they live together at home and do everything they can to make Michael feel comfortable and part of the family.

The seven-time world champion, now 54, continues to recover from the accident at home in Switzerland and has not been seen in public since.
