The AI-powered software will help customers prepare for climate risks that could disrupt operations or damage assets.

IBM (NYSE: IBM) has launched an Environmental Intelligence Suite, software that is a combination of AI, weather data, climate risk analytics, and carbon accounting capabilities. The suite helps organizations assess the climate impact of their own operations, assists in regulatory compliance, and to monitor for severe weather, wildfires, and air quality. (Venture Beat)

Enterprises can also use the software to assess the chances of climate-related damage to their assets and to satisfy consumers of their commitment to the environment with data.

Climate change has serious implications for business considering its impact on supply chains, inflationary impact on costs, and interruption in production. On the other hand, products made in an environmentally friendly manner command a premium with consumers.

The Suite, an AI-powered SaaS solution, enables companies to develop long-term planning and strategies related to climate change using the Suite’s recommendations. These are delivered using APIs, dashboards, maps, and alerts.

The Suite includes data API services, a geospatial analytics engine, an operations dashboard, and scalable alerting that could be sent to thousands of personnel at the right time and place.

IBM: Business accountable for their climate impact

“The future of business and the environment are deeply intertwined. Not only are companies coping with the effects of extreme weather disruptions on their operations, they’re also being held increasingly accountable by shareholders and regulators for how their operations impact the planet,” IBM’s general manager of AI applications and blockchain Kareem Yusuf said in a statement.

“IBM is bringing together the power of AI and hybrid cloud to provide businesses with environmental intelligence designed to help them improve environmental performance and reporting, create more efficient business operations to reduce resource consumption, and plan for resiliency in the face of climate disruptions.”
