Venture Capital: Inflection, The AI Lab Founded Just This Year, Raises $225M
Inflection’s valuation has not been made public.
Inflection AI was founded earlier this year by DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, and Karen Simonyan, a British computer scientist and researcher also from Google DeepMind. The company’s AI intends to make it possible to communicate with computers using the same natural, conversational language that we use to converse with people. Inflection raised $225 million from unnamed investors. The valuation was not disclosed either. (CNBC)
In March, VC firm Greylock Ventures told CNBC that it was “incubating” Inflection and was investing in the company. Suleyman and Hoffman are partners at Greylock.
Inflection to make it easy to speak to machines
“Throughout the history of computing, humans have had to learn to speak the language of machines,” says Inflection on its website. “In the new paradigm, machines will understand our language.”
But the development will obviously not come cheap. Inflection is expected to hire numerous experts at very high salaries.
Recent joiners at the company include:
- Heinrich Kuttler (previously, research engineering manager role at Meta AI in London)
- Joe Fenton (previously, senior product manager role at Google)
- Maarten Bosma and Rewon Child, two former Google Brain researchers
Inflection’s rivals include Adept, a startup creating AI that can automate any software process, and Anthropic, another startup developing cutting-edge AI models.
