Alternative Investments/ESG: J.P. Morgan Asset Management Launches Climate Change ETF

JPMAM will use AI technology to review more than 13,000 stocks across the globe.
J.P. Morgan Asset Management (JPMAM) announced Tuesday the launch of its first active, sustainable ETF that will give investors exposure to companies addressing the huge challenge of climate change and are poised to benefit from it. The JPMorgan Climate Change Solutions ETF (TEMP) will invest in companies that are producing less carbon-intensive energy such as wind or solar power; improving the electric grid; investing in less carbon-intensive forms of agriculture, construction, or transportation; or developing technologies to reduce waste. The new ETF will benefit from the expertise of JPMAM’s global research and portfolio management teams, a dedicated sustainable investing team and the firm’s proprietary artificial intelligence technology.
As a starting point, JPMAM will use its proprietary natural language processing tool, ThemeBot, to review nearly 13,000 stocks globally. ThemeBot will seek to identify companies globally that are developing tangible solutions to address climate change, to create a universe of potential investments for the fund. This universe of stocks will be analyzed by portfolio analysts for fundamental attributes that would justify a company’s inclusion in the ETF’s portfolio.
Francesco Conte, Portfolio Manager, International Equity Group, J.P. Morgan Asset Management, comments: “Climate Change is one of the largest systemic challenges we face and addressing it will require meaningful investment and widespread innovation. TEMP harnesses our high conviction investment ideas, focused on company fundamentals, to invest in long-term, quality, sustainable companies that are building the solutions we need to address this monumental challenge.”
Previously, JPMAM launched JPMorgan Carbon Transition U.S. Equity ETF (JCTR) as a sustainable focused ETF. JCTR offers core exposure to U.S. equities and seeks to capture benefits from the transition to a lower-carbon economy.
