Alternative Investments: Lazard Asset Management Launches High-Conviction Strategy Fund
The new fund has three portfolio managers.
Lazard Asset Management has made yet another splash in thematic investing. The firm has launched a new fund employing a high-conviction global equity strategy.
The company announced the strategy behind the new Lazard Global Thematic Focus fund. The strategy will invest in at least 35 to 50 companies around the globe.
In 2019, the strategy outperformed its benchmark (MSCI ACWI) by more than 800 basis points.
Each firm will have a market capitalization of at least $1 billion. The UCITS-compliant Fund seeks to achieve long-term capital growth by identifying structural and secular changes that will transform the global economy.
The New Lazard Asset Management Thematic Fund
The new Lazard fund will have three managers. Nicholas Bratt, John King, and Steve Wreford will oversee the fun. More details will emerge over the coming weeks.
“Our investment strategy is designed to benefit from structural and secular changes that will transform the global economy,” said Wreford. “Identifying significant structural themes and undertaking [a] bottom-up fundamental analysis of individual companies allows us to construct a well-diversified portfolio of holdings which are fundamentally attractive and undervalued.”
Meanwhile, the firm says that profound transformations are taking place in the global economy. Lazard also cites the growing prominence of environmental threats, societal anxieties, and regulation as key themes.
“Our focus is on turning insights about long-term change into sustainable investment returns,” said King of Lazard Asset Management. “We think about risk in a holistic way, and ESG is fully integrated into our process through our proprietary Sustainability Framework. We believe this will be a key differentiator in a fast-changing world.”
