Artificial Intelligence: OpenAI Faces Class Action Suit From Sarah Silverman And Authors For Copyright Violation

The plaintiffs allege that OpenAI used their copyrighted content for training its AI models and chatbots.

Comedian Sarah Silverman, and novelists Richard Kadrey and Christopher Golden are suing ChatGPT creator OpenAI and Meta (NASDAQ: META), claiming the two AI entities used copyrighted content without permission for AI training purposes.

The large language models which back generative AI products such as ChatGPT offer human-like conversational interactions and are able to perform a range of tools that can automate a number of creative and official tasks.

The complainants allege that information leaks revealed that Meta used their works for AI purposes without their permission. (FOX Business)

They also claim that ChatGPT generated summaries of their work that were only possible if it had been trained on content created by them and protected by copyright.

The lawsuits are class action suits that were filed in San Francisco federal court on Friday and seek monetary damages of an unspecified amount.
