It’s a record-breaking seed round for the alt seafood market, according to the company.

Israeli alternative sea-food company Plantish has raised $12.45 million for its world-first, vegan, whole cut salmon fillet made using plant proteins. In addition to its realistic aesthetics that mimic real salmon, the product replicates the taste, texture, and nutrition of the fish, despite using all plant-based ingredients. (green queen)

Plantish uses a highly innovative patent-pending additive manufacturing technology that creates plant-based connective tissue and muscle tissue, to create Plantish, one super-fine layer at a time.

Plantish salmon, the company’s first product, in its current prototype, can be prepared and cooked in all the methods that conventional salmon is prepared.

“We love fish and are not trying to change what consumers want,” said Ofek Ron, CEO and Co-Founder. “We are just offering a delicious upgrade to salmon that is safer for you and better for the planet. No antibiotics, no hormones, no mercury, no bycatch, and no compromise.”

Plantish: Record seed round

The round was led by State of Mind Ventures, with Pitango Health Tech, Unovis Capital, TechAviv Founder Partners, SmartAgro, E2JDJ, Alumni Ventures, and OurCrowd participating.

TechAviv Founder Partners, a venture fund backed by top industry veterans, and angel investors including Chef José Andrés, and Nuseir Yassin from Nas Daily, previously funded $2 million for Plantish’s pre-seed round in June 2021.

Plantish is driven by a mission to save the oceans as well as become the world’s leading seafood brand.

“We’ve already seen it happen in the meat market, now it’s the time for fish,” says Ron, “and in particular salmon, which accounts for $50 billion in the half a trillion dollar seafood market.”
