The LaserWeeder can do the equivalent work of about 70 people.

Seattle-based company Carbon Robotics has developed an AI-powered agricultural tool called LaserWeeder, which utilizes robotics and lasers to eliminate weeds in fields. Weeds are a challenging and time-consuming aspect of farming, and the LaserWeeder offers a fast and accurate solution.

The machine can remove over 200,000 weeds per hour, resulting in up to 80% cost savings in weed control. The CEO and founder of Carbon Robotics, Paul Mikesell, recognized the lack of AI investment in agriculture and decided to create the LaserWeeder to address this gap. (Fox Business)

The LaserWeeder, a 20-feet wide device, consists of three rows of 10 lasers that are pulled behind a tractor, effectively destroying weeds with precision. The deep-learning AI and laser combine can distinguish between plants and weeds with millimetric accuracy. The technology reduces labor costs and provides consistent crop growth without the need for harmful herbicides or chemicals.

The adoption of the LaserWeeder by farmers has been positive, as it improves yield and contributes to a healthier farming process. Mikesell emphasizes the importance of farming and highlights the potential of AI to create valuable tools for various industries.

However, he also acknowledges concerns about privacy and surveillance associated with AI technology.
