Artificial Intelligence: The Rowan, A Condominium Building In Queens, Opens AI Parking
The AI-powered parking system is claimed to be a gamechanger.
A new self-parking garage in the Ditmars section of Astoria, Queens has opened and is operated by artificial intelligence (AI). The garage is located at The Rowan, a newly developed mixed-use condominium building and can accommodate 96 car spaces.
The AI component of the system analyzes customer driving habits and instructs the system to move their cars to the front of the line, allowing customers to retrieve their cars faster. Drivers park their vehicles on a platform in the parking bay, and then the automated mechanism transfers the car to its designated parking space via an automated lift. Drivers then use an app or an electronic ticket system at a kiosk to request and retrieve their vehicle. (Astoria Post)
The garage is open 24/7, and vehicles are safeguarded from elements such as snow, rain, wind, and extreme temperatures. The AI system also means that less fuel is used during parking, it saves times for drivers as they do not need to locate a space themselves, and cars are safe from getting dented by other vehicles.
GGMC Parking, a Manhattan-based parking garage provider, is managing and operating the automated garage.
The garage design, coupled with its AI system, allowed the developer to create an extra 50 vehicle spaces and increase retail space size at The Rowan. The AI therefore meant that more vehicles could be accommodated inside the garage compared to regular garages.
The AI-operated garage is claimed to be a game-changer and is revolutionizing parking.
