Venture Capital: Trailhead Capital Concludes Its First $50 Million Fund Focused On Companies In The Regenerative Food And Agriculture Sector
The Trailhead Capital Regeneration Fund I was oversubscribed.
Trailhead Capital, a mission-driven venture capital firm based in Boulder, Colorado, has successfully closed its inaugural fund, the Trailhead Capital Regeneration Fund I, with commitments totaling approximately $50 million. This achievement highlights the strong investor confidence in Trailhead’s team and its focus on expanding regenerative agriculture practices and products through tech-enabled solutions.
Regenerative agriculture entails cultivating and raising crops and livestock in alignment with the natural environment. The comprehensive principles underpinning this dynamic approach aim to rejuvenate soil and ecosystem well-being, tackle inequalities, and ensure that our land, water, and climate are in improved condition for the benefit of future generations.
The Trailhead Capital Regeneration Fund has already supported 22 companies, with two successful exits to date, showcasing its commitment to fostering innovation in the regenerative agriculture sector. It garnered significant interest from a diverse group of investors, including agricultural giants like McDonald Pelz and the Rodale Institute, foundations such as The Argosy Foundation, Cisco Foundation, and the Zero Gap Fund, as well as climate-focused funds-of-funds like the Wire Group and WovenEarth Ventures. High net worth individuals also contributed to the Fund’s success.
Bobby Pelz Jr., Founding Partner of Trailhead, emphasized the importance of regenerative food and agriculture in shaping the global food future, and Trailhead as a driving force behind the wider adoption of regenerative practices.
Trailhead Managing Partner, Pete Oberle, said regenerative agriculture could potentially reduce carbon emissions, minimize food waste, and improve food quality, and that technological advancements and growing consumer demand, along with corporate and government support, are driving this positive change.
Trailhead Capital, as a Certified B Corp, is dedicated to fostering financial, societal, and ecological returns by supporting entrepreneurs who are shaping the regenerative future of food and agriculture. The firm targets Seed and Series A investments in innovative, tech-enabled companies across the entire food value chain.
The Fund is currently managed by Managing Partners Mark Lewis and Pete Oberle.
