Amadeus will bring BNPL services by Uplift to its Amadeus Xchange Payment Platform (XPP), as part of a multi-provider BNPL ecosystem dedicated to travel.

Uplift, a provider of Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) solutions to enterprises, is joining hands with Amadeus, a leading travel technology provider, for bringing BNPL services to customers in the US and Canada via the Amadeus Xchange Payment Platform (XPP). Travel and BNPL

BNPL is common in retail, however it is particularly suited to travel:

· Research – 68% would spend more on travel if BNPL options were available

· Furthermore, 49% confirmed they would be more likely to buy airline ancillary services

· Travel is a big-ticket item for consumers and especially so when planning a family or long-haul trip

· However, it is common for upfront payments at the time of booking

· BNPL is a way to spread the cost of a purchase across several monthly payments, delivering additional flexibility for travelers

Beatrice Bouju, Head of Partnerships, Payments, Amadeus said: “The growth of BNPL across all sectors has been remarkable and the message from travelers is clear – they want the choice to pay for the trip in installments. Such payment options will help travel’s recovery by facilitating pent-up demand for higher value holidays as travel restrictions are lifted.”

Amadeus XPP

Airlines and travel companies use XPP to enable their payments function including prevention of fraud and payment acceptances.

The tie-up with Uplift means that Amadeus can offer BNPL options to its travel agencies, airlines, and hotel customers through a single connection to the XPP platform. Prospective travellers will then have options to pay for the travel in instalments over six, nine or 12 months.

“Our vision for the Amadeus Xchange Payment Platform is a one-stop-shop for travel companies to access the latest in fintech innovation, so adding BNPL services from two travel specialists to the mix was an easy choice,” added Bouju.
