UBS Promotes Simona Maellare, Goldman Makes a Surprise Senior Trading Hire, Partners Capital Appoints Advisor

Simona Maellare will co-head the alternative capital group of UBS, according to a report Friday. The Swiss bank has also appointed  US-based Matt Eilers as a co-head of the group. Maellare is very influential in London, where she served as UBS’ co-head of financial sponsors before the new appointment. Simona Maellare previously worked as a Managing Director at BAML and Senior Vice President at JPMorgan Chase.

Goldman Sachs has hired Drew Goldman, a senior trader and director at $30 billion hedge fund Anchorage Capital. The 37-year old will join Goldman as a managing director in its high-yield trading group. Goldman actually started at GS back in 2004. He worked at Morgan Stanley before joining the Australian hedge fund in 2016. This is quite a development for Goldman, a firm notorious for not bringing in people at senior levels and preferring to develop their own talent. The shakeup continues at the Wall Street giant.

Partners Capital Investment Group announced the appointment of Marc Schwartz as strategic advisor to its West Coast office. The $26 billion firm announced the appointment on Thursday. Schwartz was previously the CIP of the Broad family office and The Broad Foundations in Los Angeles.

Goldman Sachs Loses Seattle Team

Goldman Sachs has lost a team of brokers in Seattle to Morgan Stanley’s private wealth group. David Midgley and hits three-adviser team were responsible for about 410 million in business. Midgely arrived at the new shop two weeks ago, according to reports. He joined Goldman in 2005.

Meanwhile, Merrill Lynch will lose a Houston-based team that managed $165 million in assets. The team – consisting of Glenn Royal, Michele Jones, and Natalie Picha – are moving on to launch a hybrid registered investment advisory called Royal Harbor Partners. The new group will use Purshe Kaplan Sterling Investments as its broker/dealer.
