FN Meka is also known as the first “augmented reality” rapper.

Though a virtual artist, FN Meka certainly has all the trappings of a hit rapper, including tatoos, gold jewellery and thumping music on offer.

For the single, titled Florida Water, FN Meka rapped with platinum artist Gunna and Fortnite streamer Clix.

The song was released as a royalty-free project for the benefit of streamers on YouTube and Twitch who can use the track “without monetization or takedowns”.

Capitol Records Executive VP of Experimental Marketing & Business Development, Ryan Ruden, said: “This latest project with FN Meka and Clix, while a first of its kind, is only an evolution of Capitol Records 80-year history of innovation.”

Ruden also said the FN Meka single “meets at the intersection of music, technology and gaming culture.”

FN Meka also is the first ever “AR artist” to sign a contract with a major label.

How FN was created

He was created by Factory New, a “virtual” record label who were the first to “sign” FN.

According to Factory New co-founder, Anthony Martini, AI technology first analyzed current hit and popular songs to extract suggestions for “lyrical content, chords, melody [and] tempo” that could form the basis for creating a new song.

Using the suggested elements, the company created new songs, that are, however, still sung by a human voice.

The rapper himself was composed from “thousands of data points compiled from video games and social media.”
