Artificial Intelligence: Humane Unveils AI Pin, A Revolutionary Wearable Device
Humane AI Pin: Seamless, screenless, and sensing mobile computing experiences.
In a long-awaited move, Humane, a company spearheaded by ex-Apple talents like Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, has unveiled the AI Pin. This compact wearable gadget functions as a projector, equipped with an ultra-wide RGB camera for photography, text and email capabilities, and ChatGPT-like question-answering prowess. Backed by industry giants like OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), the device harnesses AI models from both entities.
While designed as an everyday accessory, the AI Pin’s seemingly light aluminum frame belies its weight, tipping the scales at 55 grams, akin to a tennis ball. For bulkier clothing, an additional clip-on accessory is available. Safety precautions for individuals with pacemakers have been advised due to potential magnetic interference, but it has demonstrated resilience through various activities and minor falls. (ZD NET)
The device’s true marvel unfolds with its projector functionalities, projecting a Laser Ink Display onto the hand when prompted.
Navigating the system, named Cosmos, involves hand gestures for selection and control. Demos showcased its prowess in tasks like summarizing emails, nutritional food identification, and context-based queries.
The AI Pin relies on AI tools, akin to ChatGPT plugins, catering to user prompts, eradicating the need for manual app searches and downloads. With a “Personic Speaker,” Bluetooth connectivity, and a “Trust Light” indicating recording activities, it offers a comprehensive user experience.
Priced at $699, it requires a $24 monthly “Humane Subscription” for cellular data, cloud storage, and unlimited voice assistant queries.
However, its real-world performance—such as projection accuracy in low-light conditions and functionality in noisy or weak signal areas—will ultimately determine its success.
