The new cloud innovations from Amazon are intended to up the ante in the generative AI sweepstakes.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is bringing generative AI technology innovations in the wake of the frenzy surrounding AI applications such as ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion.

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) has heavily invested in machine learning (ML) for the past 25 years and has integrated these capabilities into every business unit, providing benefits such as supply chain friction removal and personalized digital experiences. AWS offers over a dozen AI and ML services in the cloud, serving more than 100,000 customers worldwide. Which is why it is well-equipped to move into the hot new space of generative AI.

“Generative AI is poised to have a profound impact across industries, from health care and life sciences, media and entertainment, education, financial services, and more,” the ecommerce giant said.

To support generative AI applications, AWS has now announced four new innovations. (Amazon)

Firstly, Amazon Bedrock is a service for building and scaling generative AI applications that generates text, images, audio, and synthetic data in response to prompts. Customers will have easy access to foundation models (FMs) from leading providers.

Secondly, Amazon EC2 Inf2 instances, powered by AWS Inferentia2 chips, offer lower cost and energy consumption for running demanding generative AI inference workloads at scale on AWS.

Thirdly, the new Trn1n instances, powered by AWS Trainium chips, allow for faster and less expensive training of generative AI models.

Finally, Amazon CodeWhisperer provides free real-time coding assistance to individual developers using generative AI.

These offerings are only the beginning of AWS’s commitment to shaping the future of AI technology – “guided by the needs of our customers—toward the most promising, beneficial, and responsible AI applications.”
