Uber, too, is jumping on the generative AI bandwagon.

Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE: UBER) is currently in the process of creating an AI-powered chatbot to be seamlessly integrated into its app, aligning with the growing trend among companies to leverage language tools for enhancing customer service, marketing, and other automated functions.

During an interview on the Bloomberg Technology show, Uber’s CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, confirmed the ongoing development of the chatbot, although he refrained from providing specific details about its capabilities. Khosrowshahi did, however, emphasize the existing use of AI within Uber’s operations, particularly in their long-standing engagement with machine learning and artificial intelligence systems. These technologies play a crucial role in the seamless matching of riders with cars or couriers, employing algorithms that consider factors such as time of day and distance.

In addition to Uber’s endeavors, its delivery rivals, including DoorDash Inc. and Instacart Inc., are also working on their chatbot solutions to enhance their respective services. DoorDash’s upcoming DashAI system aims to expedite the ordering process and assist customers in discovering food options through the app. On the other hand, Instacart introduced a feature called “Ask Instacart” that utilizes OpenAI Inc.’s application programming interface (API) to allow customers to inquire about food preparation.

Notably, Uber achieved a significant milestone by posting its first-ever operating profit, signaling promising prospects. However, despite this success, the company’s revenue fell short of analysts’ estimates, leading to a 6% decline in share value.

As Uber continues to explore the potential of AI and chatbot integration, it is likely to advance its customer experience and further streamline its operations in the competitive ridesharing and delivery market. The adoption of AI technologies across various sectors reflects the industry’s ongoing pursuit of innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and meet evolving customer expectations.
